Package Cushioning

Package cushioning material is also called shockproof packaging material. It functions to protect fragile goods from damages caused by vibration and impact during transportation and warehousing processes. Both goods and cushion packaging material are placed inside a shipping container. Classifying according to the raw material, there are the following types of cushion packaging materials.

1. EPS Foam
Due to good buffering and shock absorption properties, EPS cushioning material has been widely used in various industries. It is also light in weight, easy for processing and economical. But it requires large storage space, and it cannot be recycled, so it is replaced by some eco-friendly and recyclable materials, such as EPE foam.

2. EPE Foam
In addition to features like light weight and economical, EPE cushioning material is environmental friendly, soft and has good elasticity. When it is deformed, it can easily restore to its original shape, and offers superior thermal insulation and sound insulation properties, ageing and corrosion resistance, and water resistance as well. It has many advantages over other types of cushioning materials. In addition, EPE foam with antistatic function is also available, which is ideal for packaging electronic parts and components, etc.

3. Paper Cushioning Material
Paper cushioning material has a long history in its use and commonly seen types are corrugated paperboard and honeycomb paperboard types. However, with the increasing demand for environmental protection all over the world, it is gradually replaced by economical and eco-friendly materials.

4. Molded Pulp Cushioning Material
The cushion packaging material is made using paper pulp or waste paper material which undergoes pulping, moulding and drying processes. In most conditions, waste paper materials are utilized as the main raw material, so the production and use of the product is environmental friendly, and meanwhile, the end product offers light weight, high compressive strength, and superior anti-vibration performance. Also, the used molded pulp cushion packaging material is recyclable. As a result of its relatively low tensile strength, the cushioning material is restricted in cushion packaging for small sized electronic products, fruits, eggs, etc. It is not suitable for heavy goods.
